Resolution: Multnomah Democrats Endorse Equal Rights for All Constitutional Amendment Initiative Petition 33
At their February 13, 2025 central committee meeting, the Multnomah County Democratic Party unanimously passed a resolution supporting Oregon Initiative Petition 33 (IP 33), the Equal Rights for All Constitutional Amendment. The proposed amendment would secure fundamental rights for all Oregonians regardless of sex, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation—creating lasting protections that can’t simply be overturned by changing political winds. A signature-gathering effort is underway now, aiming to get the measure on the fall 2026 ballot in Oregon.
The amendment would ensure every Oregonian has the freedom to make personal healthcare decisions, access essential care — including contraceptives, abortion and gender-affirming care — and marry whomever they love.

The resolution builds on years of consistent support from local Democrats for equal rights protections. The amendment would finally remove Oregon’s currently inoperative ban on same-gender marriage that has remained in the state constitution since 2004, while adding crucial protections for reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare that are increasingly under threat nationwide.
