Resolution: Multnomah Democrats Call for Enforcement of Bans on the Use of US-Manufactured Weapons
April 8, 2025|

At their February 13, 2025 central committee meeting, the Multnomah County Democratic Party passed a resolution calling for the enforcement of the ban on using US weapons that violate human rights. The resolution:
- Cites relevant planks from the party’s 2025-26 platform supporting diplomacy, human rights, and condemning denial of humanitarian aid.
- Focuses on US weapons being supplied to Israel that have allegedly been used to kill civilians in Gaza and Lebanon.
- Argues that such arms transfers violate US law, including the Foreign Assistance Act and Arms Export Control Act.
- References Senator Jeff Merkley’s (OR) vote with 18 other senators in November 2024 supporting resolutions to stop weapons transfers to Israel.
- Draws attention to International Criminal Court arrest warrants issued on November 21, 2024, for both Hamas military commander Diab Ibrahim al-Masri and Israeli officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged war crimes.
What You Can Do
- Contact your federal legislators in both houses to support legislation preventing weapons transfers to Israel while they violate human rights.
- Contact your federal legislators in both houses, asking them to reintroduce and support the Resolutions of Disapproval to end weapons transfers.
- Thank US Senator Jeff Merkley for his stance and leadership on the issue.
