Rep. Travis Nelson
Hi, I’m Travis Nelson. I’m a registered nurse, union activist and the grandson of Louisiana sharecroppers. I’m running for SCC because I believe that representation matters and because I want to help steer the direction of the state central committee over the next two years. I have a long history of involvement in Oregon politics. I’m a former DPO Black Caucus Chair, a two-term DNC member and have worked on many campaigns over the years.
I currently serve as the State Representative for HD 44. Upon being sworn in, I became the first openly LGBTQ+ Black person to serve in the Oregon legislature. I have had the honor of being the chief sponsor of multiple pieces of progressive legislation. Including legislation that made Oregon the first state to put nurses to patient ratios in statute, legislation that required insurance companies to cover gender affirming care and legislation that put Oregon on the path to universal healthcare.
Vote for me and I promise to be a strong voice for Multnomah County. We need the Democratic Party and the Democrats in the legislature to have a strong connection. I commit to being a part of that bridge.
