At the January 8 Central Committee meeting, Multnomah County Democrats passed four resolutions relating to crucial issues, including affordability and equity in Portland. In addition, MultDems condemns the illegal federal military action in Venezuela as well as the violence perpetrated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal troops in our cities. 

Resolution 2026-01: Renters’ Bill of Rights and the Demands

In the face of the lack of affordable housing throughout Multnomah County, Central Committee members voted to support a resolution advanced by PDX Renter Power, an advocacy group promoting safe, stable and affordable housing in Portland. MultDems supports the Renters Bill of Rights and Demands and commits to using its organizing, communications and political power to uplift renter voices, educate voters and advocate for policies that ensure stability, dignity and justice for all renters in Multnomah County.

Resolution 2026-02: Support of the 2026 Your Two Cents Initiative and Participatory Budgeting

Participatory budgeting is a proven democratic process that allows residents—especially those historically excluded from decision-making—to directly propose, deliberate on, and decide how public funds are spent. MultDems support the ballot measure proposed by the Your Two Cents initiative, which opens participatory budgeting to all residents of Portland by July 2028. The campaign proposes that residents have a direct voice and vote on how a 2% of the city’s budget is spent. With enough support and signatures, the measure will appear on the November 2026 ballot.

Resolution 2026-03 In Opposition to Illegal Bombing and Kidnapping of Foreign Sovereign

This resolution, initiated by the MultDems Foreign Policy Study Group, condemns the federal government’s military action in Venezuela as an unconstitutional exercise of military power and a naked grab for natural resources and calls on Oregon’s Congressional delegation “to ensure that the country of Venezuela and the natural resources of Venezuela remain under the power of the Venezuelan people.”

In Multnomah County we watch out for our equity priority communities regardless of income, national origin, immigration status or race. We will continue to volunteer, educate ourselves and call for leadership and accountability from our elected leaders.”

2026-05: On Immigration Enforcement Killing People and Community Response

Multnomah County Democrats condemn the recent killing of Keith Porter in Los Angeles and Renee Good in Minneapolis. We also recognize those who have died while detained, being transported and in custody by immigration enforcement. We demand that federal Border Patrol and ICE operations cease until a full investigation is done. The resolution calls on the Oregon Congressional delegation to hold hearings about the killing and to investigate other reckless ICE actions in Portland, “holding accountable the persons responsible for the Border Patrol-related shooting in East Portland of January 8, 2026.”
