December Central Committee Meeting December 10th

Come to the last meeting of 2015. Doors open at 6:00; Meeting at 7:00. 3551 NE Sandy Blvd., Portland.

We will start the meeting, again, with a moment of silence in commemoration of the lives taken and the lives affected by gun violence. We will then take ten to fifteen minutes for members to speak briefly on reactions to items in the news.

Featured Presentation: Renew Oregon

A representative from Renew Oregon will present on clean energy and “the coalition of businesses, non-profits, faith and community organizations, and individual Oregonians working to make Oregon a leader in the fight against climate change to promote a cleaner, more prosperous state.”

 State Central Committee Election

There are openings to fill alternate delegate positions on the State Central Committee, with positions open for two women and three men. Are you interested? Let KC know at statechair@multdems.org. 

Platform Convention

A Multnomah County Party Platform Convention is planned for January 16th. Faith Ruffing, chair of the Platform, Resolutions and Legislation Committee will explain the process and the planning for it.

Bylaw amendments recommended by Rules Committee and endorsed by Executive Committee will be discussed and presented for approval. Copies of the proposed new articles are attached. Copies of comparisons to current articles are in the next post, below. (We can only attach three items per post.)

Golf Tourney & Banquet to Honor Bill Dickey

The Multnomah County Democratic Party & Basic Rights Oregon celebrate Bill Dickey, “2015 Hero of the Year.”

The MultDems and Basic Rights Oregon have joined forces to honor a man who truly personifies all that is good.  Please join us and show your appreciation and support for Bill Dickey with a sponsorship, and then party with us at the Award Ceremony and Golf Tournament in his honor. 

The event includes a Helicopter Golf Ball Drop Raffle! Golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter. The person with the closest ball to the hole will win $1,000. You do not need to be present to win.

A VIP Party will take place on Thursday night, Sept. 10th at 6:30, at the Riverside Country Club. Special Guest: Former Governor Barbara Roberts. 

The Golf Tournament will tee off on Friday morning, Sept. 11th followed by the Banquet and Awards, at Riverside Country Club, NE 33rd, Portland. 

Bill Dickey has been a major benefactor to this community and this state.  From the arts to social services, education to politics, all have been on the receiving end of his generosity, his involvement and his profound interest in making Portland and Oregon a better and fairer place for all.  All without fanfare.

Now it’s time to say Thank You.

Multnomah Days Parade

March with the Multnomah Democrats in the Multnomah Days Parade through Multnomah Village on August 15th. Participants should arrive at Handy Andy’s service station, 7991 SW Capitol Hwy at Garden Home (across the bridge from Multnomah Village) by 9:15 am. Wear Multdems t-shirts if you got ’em. Contact Wendy Blum (36leader@multdems.org) for a phone number to find our group in the crowd.

Nominations open for Annual Awards at the Celsi Celebration

As an all-volunteer organization, we depend on quiet heroes. The Celsi Celebration is our time to recognize and celebrate them.

The Administration Committee is soliciting nominations for awards to be presented at our Celsi Celebration May 16th.

  • The Dick Celsi Award for dedication to the Party and to grassroots activism, by a PCP.
  • The McCoy Award for service by a present or past elected official to the Party and in support of the Party’s platforms and agendas.
  • The Governor Barbara Roberts Young Democrat Award for service to the Party by a young Democrat (under 37 as of January 1, 2015).

Please send nominations to Admin@multdems.org by April 23rd, and include your reasons for making the nominations.
