Patty Carrera

School Board, Position 5

Reynolds School District

Why I'm running.

I’m running for the school board because I can bring additional depth and breadth of institutional knowledge to the makeup of the board. I believe my 35-year history in the district provides me with a balanced perspective about what it is to live, play and work in our community. As a district patron, parent of four graduates, volunteer, coach and 21-year classified, licensed and eventually, administrative employee, I have strong loyalty and devotion to the betterment of Reynolds School District. I hope to work to support a new superintendent as plans to heal this district, strengthen student literacy and increase graduation opportunities as they evolve.

My top 3 priorities.

The top 3 priorities, and those hopefully aligned with the district's, are:
• To maintain and further safety and security efforts, inclusive of physical safety, and mental and emotional well-being
• To increase academic success through intensive efforts to build reading and literacy skills
for elementary students, to support efforts to maintain small class sizes, and to increase academic acceleration opportunities at the secondary level
• To invest in programs that offer secondary students certificate earning opportunities, dual credit opportunities, and Career and Technical Education options

Why voters should choose me.

As a community member of an East Multnomah County school district, my north star has always been to support the provision of a high quality education to children in a setting that also fosters safety and well-being. Partnering educators and parents in the same endeavor has always played a part in my life. By serving as a school board member for the Reynolds School District, I hope to continue a shared vision to provide students the foundation, freedom, and safety to reach their potential.
