Elizabeth Steiner Hayward

Oregon Senate

Senate District 17

Why I'm running.

I ran for office to make Oregon the healthiest state in the nation. In the 11 years that I have served in the Oregon State Senate I’ve passed policies to: raise the minimum purchase age of tobacco products to 21, establish the nation’s first universally-offered nurse home visiting program for parents with new babies, advance Oregon’s Coordinated Care system, and invest millions in behavioral health and addiction services. Since 2019 I’ve served as the Ways & Means Co-Chair, working to create an equitable, balanced state budget. Even after these accomplishments, more work is needed to further improve the lives of Oregonians.

My top 3 priorities.

My top priorities include: making Oregon the healthiest state by funding core services like the Oregon Health Plan, behavioral health & housing; supporting small business and workers as we navigate uncertain economic times; and fighting for a greener Oregon with common-sense environment policy and investments in clean energy infrastructure and jobs

Why voters should choose me.

In my decade of service I have proven my effectiveness as a legislator by passing important health policies, crafting budgets that improve the lives of Oregonians, and ensuring funding for critical projects in Senate District 17 and across our state. I will continue to use this lens and my years of experience to champion policies and build budgets that ensure better physical, mental and economic health for Oregon families, bridging the gaps where health care, human services, education, environment and public safety meet.
