Mt. Hood Community College Board of Education

Why I'm running.

After retiring from higher education some years ago, I felt the need to continue with my commitment to postsecondary education. I was asked to consider running for the Mt. Hood Community College Board of Education in 2011. I found the perfect fit for my skill set and my passion. I served on the Board of Education from 2011-2015. From 2015-2019 I served on Mt. Hood’s College Foundation board. I was elected again to the Board of Education in 2019. In that time I have worked with my board colleagues to balance our budget, address issues of equity and inclusion and develop a strategic plan. We are at a point where all this work is coming to fruition. I want to insure that the these plans are implemented.

My top 3 priorities.

We need to hold ourselves accountable for the goals we have set. A top priority is theme sure that all relevant data is gather, analyzed and used in a process of continuous improvement. Our strategic plan was developed with a focus on equity, meaning that all students will receive the academic and personal support they need to succeed.

We need to communicate better to our stakeholders, constituents, community at large, the importance of the college in the economic development of our region. The ROI ipreparing a workforce; who then, qualify for living wage jobs, become taxpayers, homeowners, consumers

The strategic plan also aligns with accreditation standard, as we prepare for our next accreditation review this upcoming year.
