On January 25, 2025, Multnomah County Democrats will elect new leaders for two year terms. We’re looking for fresh ideas and strong Democratic values to help us navigate the challenges ahead. 

As is the norm for Democrats across the country, this election is called a reorganization meeting (or a “reorg” to those who have been through the cycle a few times). Precinct Committee Persons (PCPs) are the voters in the reorg. The election is a chance for PCPs to weigh in on who will lead us forward and with what values and priorities.

Why participate? A political party is more than a list of platform policies. A party is only as strong as the people who step up to give their talents and time to a collective vision for our future. All registered Democrats residing in Multnomah County are eligible to run for party positions. One of the best ways to have an impact is to step up and run to help shape your community’s future.

• December 28: Nominations open — candidate forms  available online
• January 9 at 6:00 pm sharp: Nominations close — candidate forms close online
• January 11: Nominations and profiles will be posted to MultDems.org
• January 25: Reorganization election date — time and place TBD by Dec 16.

Why should I be excited? What does this have to do with me?

Every two years the Democrats of Multnomah County, represented by precinct committee persons (PCPs), vote on who holds important roles in the organization. These people represent you and serve the party at the local and state level. These jobs have a huge impact on our priorities, our platform, our candidates and our success as a party.

We vote for the Democratic Party of Multnomah County Administration Officers

These are the people who operate your all-volunteer, grassroots party. As detailed in the  MultDems bylaws, the roles are:

• Chair
• 1st Vice Chair 
• 2nd Vice Chair 
• Recording Secretary
• Treasurer
• Communications Officer
• Technology Officer

Those eligible to vote for the Multnomah County seats are elected PCPs (not those appointed by the Central Committee).

Who can run and be elected to these positions?

Any Democrat who has been registered for 180 days in Multnomah County may run and serve.

What do I have to do to run?

By December 28, an online questionnaire will be available to submit your candidacy statement and photo. Deadline for submission is January 9. The reorg team will publish these candidate profiles on January 11. At the reorg meeting on January 25, you can speak or present a short video. Then, PCPs will vote on the candidates for each position.

We vote for our county reps to the State Central Committee

Help set the agenda for statewide issues! MultDems send representatives to the State Central Committee (SCC) of the Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO). These representatives manage organization and policy initiatives for the DPO. The SCC votes for resolutions urging elected officials to introduce legislation or vote a certain way. All PCPs — elected and appointed — can vote for SCC reps.

We vote for our U.S. Congressional District reps

In addition, we will elect Congressional District (CD) delegates. Our Congressional Districts (CD 1, represented by Susan Bonamici; CD 3, to be represented by Maxine Dexter; and CD 5, to be represented by Janelle Bynum) are our conduit for these representatives and for their constituents. The voters for these roles are a subset of the total county, so the elections will be held in breakout rooms or similar. Find your Congressional District at House.gov. All PCPs — elected and appointed — can vote for CD reps.
