Action Alert: Submit Food for All Oregonians Testimony

Action Alert MultDems

Submit Testimony to the Senate Human Services Committee by March 25

The Multnomah County Democrats need your help to ensure that all Oregonians have access to necessary food assistance regardless of immigration status. The Oregon State Legislature is considering an important bill (SB 611) that would create the Food For All Oregonians Program to provide nutrition assistance to residents who would qualify for SNAP but for their immigration status.

The Impact

This issue directly affects thousands of Oregon residents, particularly immigrant communities under age 26 and over age 55 who are currently excluded from federal nutrition assistance programs.

The Food For All Oregonians Program (SB 611) would:

  • Provide nutrition assistance to Oregon residents who would qualify for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) but for their immigration status
  • Require the Department of Human Services to implement the program by January 1, 2027, with statewide outreach, education, and engagement to maximize enrollment
  • Establish an advisory group to ensure all applicants and recipients of public assistance are treated in a welcoming manner and with respect, courtesy, fairness, and dignity

Your voice matters! The Senate Human Services Committee will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, March 25 at 8:00 AM.

How To Submit Testimony

Option 1 (Recommended): Food For All Oregonians (FFAO) is collecting testimony in advance and will submit it under your name. Submit through their form.

Sample testimony

Dear Chair and Members of the Senate Human Services Committee,

My name is [Your Name], and I am writing in strong support of SB 611, the Food For All Oregonians Program. As a resident of [Your City] and a registered voter, I am deeply concerned about food insecurity among our immigrant neighbors who are currently excluded from SNAP benefits solely due to their immigration status.

Access to nutritious food is a basic human right, and no one should go hungry because of their immigration status. The Food For All Oregonians Program would provide critical nutrition assistance to vulnerable community members under 26 and over 55 years old who would otherwise qualify for SNAP.

By passing SB 611, you will help ensure equitable access to food assistance, improve public health outcomes, and strengthen our communities. I urge you to vote YES on this important legislation.

Provide nutrition assistance to Oregon residents who would qualify for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) but for their immigration status.

Signed,

[Your Name and County]
