About our platform

The Multnomah County Democrats vision for the future

Our platform is a grassroots document — our collective values and vision for the future. It's drafted and revised by registered Multnomah County Democrats through study groups and the Platform, Resolutions and Legislative Action Committee (PRLC), and finalized at a biennial Platform Convention.

Our 2027-2028 Final Platform has been Published! It is now available for public view, per our Standing Rules. The 2027-2028 Platform was ratified at our Platform Convention on September 27, 2026.

Legislative Advocacy
The Platform, Resolutions and Legislative Action Committee provides overall guidance for the development of our county party Platform and our legislative advocacy work. Check in with the committee for background on work that's already done. Join and ask about the best path forward and who else you might join forces with on your issues.

Working from within the party can add clout to your contacts with elected officials. Committee members and study groups work together to keep each other informed on the issues related to our Platform.

Vice Chair 1 Andre Miller is leading Platform meetings and planning at present because the chair position is vacant.

The Committee meets online on the 4th Thursday of each month.

Apply to be Platform Chair

Our 2027–2028 Platform is done. Hundreds of Multnomah County Democrats wrote it through ten study groups and ratified it at our convention on September 27. Now it needs someone to put it to work.

We're looking for a Platform Chair to lead the Platform, Resolutions, and Legislation Committee (PRLC). This is the role that keeps our values from sitting on a shelf. You'll make sure the platform shapes what our party says, what we ask of our elected officials, and how we judge what's on the ballot.

Who we're looking for
You don't need to be a policy expert or a parliamentarian. We need someone who is organized and who enjoys bringing people together. You should also believe a grassroots platform is worth fighting for. The Platform Chair must be a Precinct Committee Person (PCP). Not a PCP yet? Becoming one is the first step, and we're glad to help.

FAQs

What is a Platform Convention and how do things get done there?

Platform, articles, planks, LAIs: What do all the terms mean?

Platform: The full document laying out our positions and priorities. It's the umbrella term for the whole thing.

Articles: Broad topic sections the Platform is organized into, like "Article I: Education" or "Article II: Economy." Think of them as chapters.

Planks: The individual statements or positions within an Article. Each plank is one specific stance. Many planks make up an Article, and all the Articles together make up the Platform.

Legislative action items (LAIs): Specific, actionable proposals tied to a plank — things we want to see turned into actual legislation or policy, rather than just a general statement of values.

Who is eligible to participate?

Per Standing Rule 13, any Democrat on the voter rolls in Multnomah County can register to participate in the Convention. In addition, any Democratic office holder, regardless of where they reside, whose district includes a portion of Multnomah County may also register to participate.

All participants in our 2026 Platform Study Groups and Convention must register in advance, and RSVP to the invitation once it is available.

How can I advocate for a specific issue?

We recommend connecting with the study group that looks appropriate to your issues. You can work with this study group on resolutions.

During a platform convention, you can register, and join the appropriate work session for your issue. You may also contact the committee chair at platform@multdems.org for specific guidance. They will likely point you towards the study group or standing committee meetings that would be appropriate for your topic.
