Black History Month movie showing at the Hollywood Theater

Sunday, February 19, 2017 - 4:45pm

In observance of Black History Month, Multnomah County Democrats would like to share with you a piece of African American history that is American history and Democratic Party history as well.

On February 10th, 1989:

Ron Brown, a former Supreme Court lawyer and leader of the National Urban League, was elected chairman of the Democratic Party National Committee. He was the first African American to ever serve in this role.

Ron played an integral role in running a successful 1992 Democratic National Convention and in Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential run. Ron's career as Democratic party leader serves to remind us that Black History is American History, it is OUR history.
